Photo Metadata Checklist for Creators and Influencers

The GG Network · file privacy

If you post photos for a living — or even just a few times a week — the math is different than it is for a casual phone user. One vacation photo with GPS metadata is a small risk. Dozens of posts a month, all shot from the same handful of places, is a pattern anyone can piece together. Here's a practical checklist for what to check before a photo goes live.

What's riding along in a photo you're about to post

None of it shows up when you look at the photo. It's still there in the file when you upload it.

Why it's a bigger deal at creator volume

A single photo's GPS tag reveals one place. A feed full of photos, each carrying a timestamp and location, reveals a schedule — when you're home, when you're traveling, where your studio or apartment is. That's a different level of exposure than most casual posters think about, and it's exactly the kind of pattern that makes location metadata worth stripping as a habit, not a one-off.

Don't count on the platform to handle it for you. Coverage is inconsistent — some platforms strip some fields on upload, but not reliably, and not before the original file may have already been shared, DM'd, or backed up somewhere else.

The pre-post checklist

  1. Check every photo, not just the firstA carousel or gallery post can leak location through the one photo you didn't think to check.
  2. Treat home and studio shots as highest-riskThese are the photos most likely to carry GPS coordinates pointing at where you actually live or work.
  3. Clean before you upload, not afterOnce a file has left your device, you can't un-share the metadata it carried with it.
  4. Batch-clean before a content dumpIf you're queuing up a week of posts at once, it's easier to strip metadata from the whole batch than to remember one photo at a time.
  5. Keep your raw originals separateStore the untouched files privately, and only export cleaned copies for posting.

How scrub fits in

With scrub, none of this requires uploading a photo anywhere. Drop a file in and it reads the EXIF, GPS, XMP and C2PA data on your device, shows you exactly what it found, and — with one click — gives you a clean copy with that data gone, losslessly, so image quality is untouched. It even re-checks its own output to confirm the metadata is really gone. Batch cleaning a whole shoot before you post it is a GG Pro feature; scanning any single file to see what's inside is free.

The short version

Every photo you post carries hidden metadata — and at creator volume, that metadata adds up to a pattern, not just a single leak. Check before you post, clean locally, and keep your raw files separate from what you publish. Get scrub free and add it to your posting routine.
